Value: $16 million
This project showcased the renovation of 40,000 square feet on the sixth floor within the historic Sibley Building, earmarked for a university-supported business incubator and accelerator. The revamped space now houses co-working office areas, wet labs, a prototyping lab, optics lab, and private offices, catering to the needs of innovative startups.
In addition to these functional areas, the renovation included the incorporation of essential amenities such as conference rooms, private phone call booths, a shared kitchen/cafeteria, rooftop patio, and game room, fostering a collaborative and dynamic environment for budding entrepreneurs.
Overcoming numerous challenges, including a demanding schedule and limited staging space on the downtown site, the project team ensured seamless coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within the constrained space. Preservation efforts were meticulously managed in collaboration with the Landmark Society of Western New York and the State Historic Preservation Office to safeguard the historic integrity of the space.
Partially funded by the State of New York and the Federal Economic Development Administration, this forward-thinking project embodies innovation and collaboration at the intersection of history and technology.
